The construction of the bridge was ended in 1894, later of 8 years of job. The people doesn’t know why it was built and it’s different from others in
Necessity of a new bridge
Originally, the bridge was the only way to pass the river Tamesis.
How was chosen this project
Most architects showed their projects, more than 50 projects to the contest. We can see some of them in the ride of tower bridge exposition.
October of 1884, Horace Jones, the architect of the city with John Wolfe Barry , he decide the final project for the tower bridge.
The bridge building
It was needed 8 years, 432 workers to build the bridge, 11 tones of steel and lot of products to make the support base.
His Function before and after
When it was built, the bridge could open and close at middle .It was accioned by hydraulic functions of some machines.
Actually the hands of support are working like before , by hydraulic function , but in 1976 was used oil and electricity to the energy.
